A carriage 12 for association with a surface 10, the carriage comprising means for retracting an element 16 to provide an aperture 18 in the surface 10 through which a user interface 14 may be deployed and means for deploying a user interface through the aperture. Element 16 is preferably planar and when retracted lies beneath and parallel to the surface 10. When stowed, the user interface 14, e.g. television screen, LCD screen, keyboard, preferably lies parallel to surface 10 end when deployed extends through aperture 18 at an angle. Element 16 is preferably guided by pin and slots (fig. 8 and 10, pins 80,72 and slots 82,74 respectively) cooperating with a motorised rack and pinion driven user interface 14 (fig. 4, rack 44, pinion 40) via slotted racks 32 such that as element 16 retracts user interface is deployed. |
