The machine tool has a tool spindle (18) which is moved along the spindle axis (17) in relation to the workpiece (28). A suction hood (29) is on the spindle, moved by a drive (40), to shift with the spindle and maintain a set gap (49) between the suction hood and the workpiece during machining. A mechanism can adjust the gap width between the hood and the workpiece, through a control (44) at the hood drive or adjustable limit stops.
