The security system for a biological sample tubular container consists of a holder (7) to receive the sample tube equipped, for example, with one or more projecting lugs that engage with recesses in a cap and prevent the cap from being removed without breaking off the lugs. The holder is made from a material that is different to the tubular container and can be indelibly marked, e.g. by laser. Additional security can be provided by a hinged tongue on the cap that fits into a lateral groove (14) and a cavity (12) in the edge of the tube holder and is held in place by an adhesive strip. A lateral slider in the holder can contain a radio frequency identification marker.
