<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To adjust a Raman gain profile into a desired shape, when a plurality of excitation light sources with different wavelengths are used. <P>SOLUTION: Excitation light beams, having intensity modulated with modulation frequencies different from each other and having different excitation wavelengths, are formed by laser diodes (14-1) to (14-n), intensity modulators (18-1) to (18-n), and modulation signal generators (20-1) to (20-n), and are supplied to an optical fiber 12. A demultiplexer 26 separates light beams amplified by Raman amplification of the optical fiber 12 into light beams with respective probe wavelengths. Raman gain evaluation apparatus (28-1) to (28-k) measure Raman gains and percent contribution of the respective excitation wavelengths from direct current components and respective modulation frequency components in relation to the respective probe wavelengths. A controller 40 controls output optical power of laser diodes (14-1) to (14-n), based on the results of measurement of apparatuses (28-1) to (28-k). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
