PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light propagation structure of an optical system that can improve image forming precision without any cost increase, and is suitable for executing a high-precision modulation.

SOLUTION: A projection-type display device 100 comprises a light source 10, an intensity modulation light bulb that receives the light from the light source and has a plurality of pixels capable of independently controlling the transmission ratio, and a color modulation light bulb that receives the light from the intensity modulation light bulb and has a plurality of pixels capable of independently controlling the transmission ratio. A micro lens array 508 is disposed on the light outputting side of the intensity modulation light bulb. The intensity modulation light bulb and the color modulation light bulb are disposed close to each other.
