PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a processing unit capable of easily performing processing work without measuring the hardness of every article to be processed by a user. SOLUTION: This processing unit comprises a processing means for processing the article to be processed (work W) (for example, tool 3, spindle 4, spindle head 5, X-axis moving motor 21, Y-axis moving motor 22 and rotating motor 24), a hardness measuring means (for example, scleroscope 7 and hardness measuring part 70) for measuring the hardness of the work, and a control means (for example, CPU 11 and processing program 131) for controlling the processing of the work by the processing means on the basis of a result of the measurement by the hardness measuring means.
