The device (10) is assembled of a housing (12) filled partly with water (14) and a drum (18) rotating around a horizontal axle (16). Dirt particles present in the contaminated air (30) guided into the housing (12) are attracted by the surface (20) of the drum (18) and rinsed off when the drum (18) moves through he water (14). The drum (18) is coated with a particularly porous material (22) like a sponge of natural rubber or with a suitable grid structure. The housing (12) is equipped with a lid (26) to be opened for the removal of the contaminated water (14).
