PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To calculate the evaluation value of signal quality with a smaller calculation amount by creating the table of various patterns with respect to patterns to be easily mistaken beforehand for a reproducing signal. SOLUTION: The information recording/reproducing device for obtaining an identification signal by using a PRML identification system is provided with the table 204 of Euclidean distance between a correct pattern and its ideal signal, between a corresponding error pattern and its ideal signal and between the correct pattern and the error pattern, a means 202 for calculating a difference between the Euclidean distance between the ideal signal of the correct pattern and a reproducing signal and the Euclidean distance between the ideal signal of the error pattern and the reproducing signal, and a means 202 for evaluating the identification signal by using the average of a difference distribution and standard deviation.
