Invention concerns to the refractories industry and it can be used in chemical and petrochemical branches, in particular, in the processes of steam conversion of methane. The method of production of supporting medium of alluvial type includes grinding of alumina, which contains -, - and transition phases of ??l2O3, its mixing with the plasticizing additive, formation of granules, their drying and baking. The calcium-containing component is introduced in the alumina before grinding and grinding is performed up to the predominating size of grain less than 10 m, then it is mixed up with preliminarily ground hydroxide of aluminum, and the baking of granules is carried out at a temperature of 1300-1550 DEGREE C. The use of invention makes it possible to obtain the carrier with increased strength and water absorption.
