Device for heating and cooling a consumer (5) with a fluid circuit comprises at least one intermediate heat accumulator (10) for storing heat energy from the fluid circuit that is connected in the circuit parallel to a cooling device (4) and a heating device (3). The intermediate heat accumulator is connected to the circuit by a pipe switch (9') when the heating device and cooling device are disconnected from the circuit to either store part of the heat energy of the warm fluid leaving the consumer or to transfer the stored heat energy to the cold fluid supplied to the consumer. An independent claim is also included for a process for heating and cooling a consumer using a fluid as a heat transport agent.
