PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture a magnetic recording medium wherein a magnetic coated film having fine particle magnetic powders oriented well or nonoriented and a smooth surface roughness is formed, and which has excellent short wavelength characteristics. SOLUTION: The device for manufacturing the magnetic recording medium is provided with a means 2 for continuously conveying a long nonmagnetic support 1, a means 3 for applying magnetic coating on the conveyed nonmagnetic support 1 to form a magnetic coated film, and a means for passing the nonmagnetic support 1 after the paint application through a magnetic field to subject magnetic powders in the magnetic coated film to orientation or nonorientation processing. In this case, the magnetic field forming material 4 of the magnetic field is subjected to heat generation, and a condensing means 5 for condensing and collecting solvents in the magnetic coated film is arranged on the magnetic coated film side of the nonmagnetic support 1 passing through the magnetic field.
