<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately obtain the amount of toner consumed in an image forming apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: The content of signal processing for a given image signal differs according to the circumstances of the apparatus. Considering that correlativity between gradation data and toner consumption is varied due to the above fact, a coefficient by which the integrated value of the gradation data is multiplied is set according to the content of the signal processing. Since the toner consumption is large, for example, when the apparatus which performs gradation correction as the signal processing has characteristics (2) that image density is a little higher with respect to a gradation level, the coefficient is set to be larger than in the apparatus having nearly linear characteristic (1). On the contrary, the coefficient is set to be smaller when the apparatus has characteristics (3) that the image density is low and the toner consumption is small. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
