<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new image processing method for carrying out highly accurate gradation compression processing and gray balance adjustment, and to provide an image processing apparatus and an image recording apparatus employing the method. <P>SOLUTION: The image recording apparatus 1 disclosed herein acquires the hue value and the saturation value of input image data, generates a two-dimensional histogram denoting an accumulated frequency distribution of pixels within a coordinate plane wherein an x-axis is the hue value (H) and a y-axis is the saturation value (S), divides the two-dimensional histogram into regions each comprising a hue and saturation combination, calculates a lightness deviation amount of prescribed divided regions, that is, a face region being a skin color region over the entire image, determines a gradation conversion curve on the basis of the calculated lightness deviation amount, and applies the determined gradation conversion curve to the input image data to apply gradation conversion processing to the input image data. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
