<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image area extraction method performing high-speed and high-accuracy area extraction as compared to before. <P>SOLUTION: This method extracting an area 2 by setting a rough area 3 including a boundary 2a of the area 2 to be extracted inside it, and deleting the rough area 3 on the basis of a approximate color area with a point on the periphery 3a of the rough area 3 as a reference point 6 comprises respective processes: for finding the gravity center 5 inside the rough area 3; for setting the reference point 6 on the periphery 3a of the rough area 3; for calculating a color distance between the reference point 6 and a plurality of points positioned on a straight line 7 connecting the reference point 6 and the gravity center 5; for setting an approximate color range according to calculation results thereof; for extracting the approximate color area to the reference point 6 on the basis of the set approximate color range; and for deleting the rough area 3 on the basis of the extracted approximate color area. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
