PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve exhaust emission and fuel economy, while securing stable startability when starting an engine in a cold state. SOLUTION: This control device of the engine with a motor-driven supercharger, has the motor-driven supercharger 3 arranged in an intake system of the engine 9 mounted on a vehicle and supercharging intake air by being driven by an electric motor 31, a variable valve timing means 25 capable of controlling at least the valve closing timing of an exhaust valve of the engine 9, an engine cold state determining means 21 for determining the cold state of the engine 9, a starting signal detecting means 12 for detecting an engine starting signal based on operation of a driver, and a control means 20 for driving the electric motor 31 for supercharging the intake air by the motor-driven supercharger 31 by controlling the variable valve timing means 25 to change the valve closing timing of the exhaust valve to the timing delay side, when detecting the engine starting signal by the starting signal detecting means 12 by determining that the engine 9 is the cold state.
