A composition comprises a polymer or copolymer of an ethylenically unsaturated hydrocarbon, such as ethylene, propylene and/or butylene, and a plurality of stabilizers comprising, (a) one or more organic sulphides R1-Sx-R2 wherein x is an integer and R1 and R2 are similar or dissimilar radicals containing <FORM:0896250/IV (a)/1> (but excluding the dialkyl esters of thiodialkane carboxylic acids when the polymer has been produced with a Ziegler catalyst), and (b) one or more condensation products of monocyclic monohydric phenols with cyclic terpenes or further condensation products thereof with aldehydes or ketones, or hydrogenated derivatives of said condensation products. Specified sulphides are dialkyl and alkylary mono-, di-and polysulphides, diaryl disulphides, thiuram disulphide, dialkyl xanthogene disulphide, thiophane and alkyl derivatives of thiophane, and the polymeric sulphides described in Specification 834,291. The condensation products may be derived from pinene, camphene, tricyclene, limonene or dipentene, and phenol, cresol, 2,4-dimethylphenol or 2,6-dimethylphenol. The compositions may be formed into film, sheet, fibres, filaments, tubes, pipes or solid mouldings. Specification 799,392, 799,823, 801,031 and 866,891 also are referred to. |
