PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for obtaining a nitride with less impurity, for example, gallium nitride having high crystallinity under industrially applicable conditions. SOLUTION: The method for refining a nitride of group 4 to 14 metal is carried out by allowing a nitride of group 4 to 14 metal containing an oxygen impurity to react with a nitrogen-containing compound of alkali metal or alkaline earth metal.
