METAL HALIDE LAMP AND METAL HALIDE LAMP LIGHTING DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal halide lamp improved in near-infrared light irradiation power maintenance ratio during a service life and a metal halide lamp lighting device using the lamp.

SOLUTION: A metal halide lamp MHL has a refractory and translucent airtight container 1 and; a pair of electrodes 1b, 1b sealed inside the container 1; a discharge agent including a halogen compound and a rare gas; and a metal storage means MS storing at least one kind of metal of either kalium (K), rubidium (Rb) or cesium (Cs) and gradually discharging the metals into the container 1 during the service life by heating during lighting. An irradiation power ratio between a visible range with wavelength of 380 to 780 nm and a near-infrared range with wave length of 750 to 1,100 nm during light-emitting during stable lighting is 0.5 to 4.0:1. The electrode 1b composed of tungsten doped with kalium (K) serves concurrently as the storage means MS in an embodiment of the lamp MHL.
