<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a seat belt retractor capable of flexibly setting various kinds of limit loads on a seat belt according to a situation in an emergency, and repeatedly operating a limit load setting means to set the limit loads. <P>SOLUTION: In a collision, when a motor 24 is driven, and a driving shaft 25 is rotated, a pressing piston 22 and a pressing rod 23 are moved to the right, and a tip 23 of the pressing rod 23 is abutted on a seat belt 3 to press the seat belt 3. The seat belt 3 is held between the pressing rod 23 and a belt receiving part 27. Since the movement of the pressing piston 22 is regulated according to the situation in the collision by controlling the driving force of the motor 24, the holding force of the seat belt 3 is changed.
