PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize hue conversion processing suitable for each object without requiring object determination etc. even when different objects coexist in an input image signal, thereby maintaining the image quality of an output image after color conversion processing excellent. SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus for converting an input image signal into an output image signal in a color reproduction area of an output side is provided with a brightness conversion means 13 for performing brightness conversion processing for the input image signal or an image signal to be obtained from this input image signal. The means 13 performs the brightness conversion processing so that the higher the saturation in the input image signal is, the larger the brightness change quantity in the brightness conversion processing is, and that the lower the saturation in the input image signal is, the smaller the brightness change quantity in the brightness conversion processing is.
