PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pneumatic tire capable of enhancing the steering stability and the ride quality. SOLUTION: The pneumatic radial tire 1 comprises a carcass 6 leading to a bead core 5 of a bead part 4 from a tread part 2 via a side wall part 3, and a belt layer 7 disposed on the outer side in the tire radial direction of the carcass 6 and inside the tread part 2. The carcass 6 has at least one carcass ply 6A reinforced by a carcass cord consisting of polyethylene naphthalate fibers. In the carcass cord, the strand coefficient T defined by the formula T= N√(D/ρ) (1) (where, N is the strand number (number/10 cm), D is the total denier number of lower strand, andρis the specific gravity of the lower strand material) is 1,400-2,000, and the elongation under the tensile load 2.2 g/d is≥2.0% and <3.0%.
