PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide inexpensive and high performance continuous annealing equipment and production method therefor for producing high strength steel sheet and a slow-aging type soft steel sheet without increasing the equipment cost and production cost. SOLUTION: The continuous annealing equipment combines a water-quenching apparatus with a reheating zone and a rapid heating apparatus is arranged between the water-quenching apparatus and the reheating zone and/or near the inlet in the inner part of the reheating zone, and the rapid heating apparatus can rapidly heat the steel sheet to≥0.7×T<SB>1</SB>(°C), wherein T<SB>1</SB>(°C) represents furnace temperature in the reheating zone. The method for producing the steel sheet includes: rapidly heating the steel sheet to≥0.7×T<SB>1</SB>(°C) when continuously annealing the steel sheet after water-quenching, wherein T<SB>1</SB>(°C) represents the furnace temperature in the reheating zone; and applying tempering heat-treatment to the steel sheet in the reheating zone.
