PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an epoxy resin for providing an epoxy resin composition having excellent flow properties during molding and heat resistance of cured material and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: The epoxy resin comprises≥70% of a component represented by general formula [1] (m is an integer of 1-4 and may be the same or different in one molecule; n is an integer of 0-3 and may be the same or different in one molecule; R is selected from hydrogen, a 1-6C alkyl group, a substituted or nonsubstituted phenyl group, a substituted or nonsubstituted aralkyl group and an alkoxy group and may be the same or different in one molecule).
