<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a needle safety device capable of obtaining safety about accidental needlestick not to make it difficult that a medical operator looks a cannula between a patient skin and a hub of the needle cannula or the base position near the hub. <P>SOLUTION: A needle assembly 10 includes a needle cannula 22 with an intravenous end and a non-patient end. The cannula 22 is mounted to a needle holder 12 so that the non-patient-end projects into the holder 12. A safety shield 28 is telescoped over the needle cannula 22 and is movable from a proximal position 14 where the intravenous end of the cannula 22 is exposed to a distal position 16 where the intravenous end is shielded. The safety shield 28 is actuated and propelled into the distal position in response to insertion of a blood collection tube into the holder 12. However, a slide back actuator 65 extends from the safety shield 28 to permit the shield to be retracted into a proximal position during use and before the safety shield 28 is locked in the distal position. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
