PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper thickness increasing agent and a paper strengthening agent increasing the paper thickness and paper strength of the resultant paper, respectively, and using a natural material having excellent environmental adaptability by adding them in a papermaking process. SOLUTION: The paper thickness increasing agent and the paper strengthening agent comprise a cationized dextrin. Furthermore, the paper thickness increasing agent is characterized in that the cationized dextrin preferably has 0.5-4.0 mass% nitrogen content and 500-100,000 number-average molecular weight.
