A magnetostrictive acoustic apparatus has a column-like magnetostrictive element (51), on one end side of which a partition plate (22)(stopper) is provided, extending and retracting in the axis direction with the one end defined as the fixed end and the other end defied as the free end, a drive coil (54) for producing a magnetic field for extending and retracting the column-like magnetostrictive element (51) by a drive current that is based on an acoustic signal, and a vibration transmission body (55) provided on the other end side of the column-like magnetostrictive element (51) and transmits vibration caused by the extension and retraction of the column-like magnetostrictive element (51) to a plate body (7). Sponges (53a, 53b) as elastic members are arranged between the partition plate (22) and the vibration transmission body (55) in the vibration direction.
