<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve both reduction of erroneous fail and execution of smooth system lock at determination of fail. <P>SOLUTION: In the steering device, when self-steer of front wheels 4, 4 is continuously determined for an allowance time of determination of fail, it is determined as fail and a warning lamp 12 is turned ON and a system is locked. A steering control controller 11 calculates a rotation angular velocity of a motor of a front wheel steering actuator 7 from presumed self-aligning torque.
