PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shift control method and a shift control device of an automatic transmission improving response properties when downshifting conditions from 4 to 3 are met while upshifting from 3 to 4 is being executed. SOLUTION: The shift control unit of the automatic transmission is a shift control unit of the automatic transmission connected to an engine and includes a throttle opening detector for detecting the amount of opening of a throttle valve in the engine, an output shaft rotational speed detector for detecting the rotational speed of the output shaft of the automatic transmission, a turbine rotational speed detector for detecting the turbine rotational speed of the automatic transmission, an input torque detector for detecting input torque inputted to the automatic transmission, and a transmission control unit for controlling the shifting of the automatic transmission based on a signal detected from each detector.
