The present invention relates to a fluidised bed process for cracking of polymer to provide a gaseous stream comprising hydrocarbons with significantly lower molecular weight than the polymer being converted thereto, said fluidised bed process comprising feeding the polymer into a fluidised bed of solid particulate fluidisable material which has been fluidised using a fluidising gas characterised in that the fluidising gas enters the reactor at a temperature of 700°C or higher, and is derived from the cracked gas or flue gas from a steam cracking process or the cracked gas from an autothermal cracking process.
