<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide paper sheet discriminating device/sensor with which a magnetic material embedded in paper sheets can be detected, thickness of the paper sheets can be detected and wear degradation of the paper sheets can be prevented without increasing manufacturing cost, even when a magnetic sensor is multi-channeled. <P>SOLUTION: The paper sheet discriminating device 300 is provided with a paper sheet discriminating sensor 100 detecting the magnetic material, a facing member (another member 200) facing the sensor. The whole part or a part of the facing member (the other member 200) has a conductive material or the magnetic material.
