<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting system which brightly illuminates a region to be illuminated and image projection equipment using the system. <P>SOLUTION: The lighting system is composed of LED1<SB>1</SB>, 1<SB>2</SB>, 1<SB>3</SB>, 1<SB>4</SB>and 1<SB>5</SB>as a plurality of light emitting objects of light sources, which illuminate the region to be illuminated with light from the light sources, a light emission amount control means 10 controlling light emission amounts of a plurality of LED and a light transmission rate change means 12 changing transmission rates of optical paths transmitting outgoing light beams of LED to the region to be illuminated. The light emission amount control means 10 controls the light emission amounts so that an illumination light amount P in the region to be illuminated, when the prescribed number of the light emitting objects intermittently switch on light with a driving current value larger than rated current in a prescribed period T becomes larger than an illumination light amount P-typ in the region to be illuminated when the prescribed number (n) of LED being a part of a plurality of LED always switch on light by rated driving current I-typ in the prescribed period T.
