954,055. Apparatus for transferring designsfeeding webs. DENNISON MANUFACTURING CO. Ltd. June 21, 1962 [June 21, 1961], No. 23967/62. Headings B6B and B6C. A machine for applying transfers from a continuous strip or web of material S on to articles such as bottles B having a part-conical surface comprises a rotatable heated die I having a part-conical operative surface portion, guides 236 and 237, Fig. 14, for supporting the strip S between a bottle B and the die I in contact with the die during the transfer, and means for imparting a rocking motion to the guides so that they swing about a point representing the projected apex of the operative surface portion of the die I. The bottles B are transported on a turret T which is constructed and is operated as described in Specification 954,054, the bottles being inflated during transfer. Feeding webs.-The transfer-supporting strip S is supplied from a spool 2 and passes via rolls 7, and rollers 8 and 9 under tension to a take-up spool 3. The rollers 8 and 9 are supported on a slide 11 which is reciprocated under the action of a cam block 26 rotatably mounted in a slide 27, Fig. 4, and the strip S is fed at a metered rate to the roller 8 by a sprocket-wheel 12. In addition to the rockable guides 236 and 237, the strip is supported between the rollers 8 and 9, Fig. 14, by stationary guides 244 and 245 and further stationary guides which may be generally conical in shape, Figs. 11 and 12 (not shown), are provided to give the strip the desired arc of contact with the operative surface of the heated die I. A rocking movement is imparted to a yoke 230, Figs. 2 and 4, which supports the guides 236 and 237 by an arm 239 connected by a link 240 to a slide 202 which is operated by a cam 200. The yoke 230 rocks about an axis 231, Fig. 2, which is arranged to be the common projected apex of a conical bottle B at the transfer station and the operative surface of the die 1. Adjustments are described for bottles and dies of various tapers. Specifications 844,382 and 937,071 also are referred to. |
