PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus using intermediate transfer members and electrophotographic images of good colors by using an image forming method. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus forms color images by successively superposing the respective color toner images formed on electrophotographic photoreceptor by each of a plurality of image forming units onto the intermediate transfer members and transferring the images to form the color toner images, collectively retransferring the color toner images onto a recording material and fixing the retransferred color toner images, wherein the supports of the electrophotographic photoreceptors have surface oxide film of 1.7 to 7.0 in the intensity ratio of the emission electron of an aluminum oxide and aluminum metal by a photoelectron spectroscopy. The respective color toners used for the developing means are≤10 number% in the content of the toner particles of a grain size≤0.7×(Dp50) when the 50% number grain size of the toner particles is defined as Dp50.
