PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable the front view of an occupant of a backward vehicle and to enable the rear view of an occupant of one's own vehicle. SOLUTION: This display device has a display means that has a display region for displaying an image of the front or rear side of the own vehicle on the rear windshield 101, and that allows the image displayed in the display region to be visually recognized from the inside or outside of the cabin of the own vehicle. By changing the image to be projected on the display region in response to the gear shift position of the own vehicle, the image of the front side of the own vehicle can be provided for the occupant of the backward vehicle when the gear shift position of the own vehicle is the gear shift position selected in forward travel, or the image of the rear side of the own vehicle can be provided for the occupant of the own vehicle when the gear shift position of the own vehicle is the gear shift position selected in backward travel.
