An auxiliary drive unit (7) for a motor vehicle combustion engine comprises drive shaft, drive element and transmission element and a continuously adjustable (CVT) gear between engine and auxiliary drive (17). The drive element is connected to and/or disconnected from the auxiliary unit and has an additional device (23) to smoothly reduce the drive torque until stationary. An independent claim is also included for a control process for the above.
