A liquid crystal dispensing apparatus comprises a container (122) for liquid crystal material, a discharge pump (140) drawing the material from the container and discharging it, a nozzle (150) for dispensing the material and a photo-coupler to detect the presence of liquid crystal material accumulated on the nozzle surface. The apparatus also comprises a motor, an alignment driving unit, a control unit, a dummy dispensing operating unit, a filter (173) and a cleaner. The dummy dispensing operating unit dispenses the material at a dummy location after the normal dispensing operation is stopped. The nozzle includes fluorine resin.
