PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a reduction in detecting performance, in a template matching processing under the condition that a lighting condition is changed such as in an outdoor environment, caused by a deformation of image, particularly, a deformation in size of image or rotation of image, or in case where an unknown image is deformed in size of image or rotation of image, compared with a template. SOLUTION: In this template matching processing method for storing the pattern of an object as a template, comparing the unknown image that is an image of the object with the template in pixel units to calculate the similarity, and detecting the object based thereon, a binary edge image is used as the template, an edge image is used as the unknown image, and the binary edge image is compared with the edge image in pixel units to calculate the similarity.
