A parallel acquisition reconstruction magnetic resonance imaging procedure creates successive partial k space data sets (34-36) with minimum distortion using component coils with sensitivity determined from the central area (42) of the data set and transformation of a partial data set into local space for use in overlaying all transformed data sets (38-40) into reduced artefact images (41). Independent claims are included for a system using the procedure with line, spiral or radial lower arms.
