PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cutting blade for a gardening machine which is used under the safe condition in which breakage and the scattering of splinters do not occur, and keeps satisfactory sharpness over a long period of time. SOLUTION: The cutting blade for a gardening machine reciprocates at a high speed by power from a driving source. The substrate of the cutting blade is produced from a heat-treated steel sheet having a composition containing, by mass, 0.5 to 0.7% C,≤0.5% Si, 0.1 to 2.0% Mn,≤1.5% Cr,≤0.5% Mo and/or≤0.5% V, and the balance substantially Fe, and in which X value defined by X=3.5Mn+4.2Cr+3.3Mo+4.8V+0.6Ni is controlled to 3 to 8, and having a hardness of≥50 HRC. Alternatively, a heat-treated steel sheet containing one or more kinds of metals selected from 0.1 to 2.0% Ni, 0.01 to 0.1% Ti, 0.01 to 0.1% Nb and 0.0003 to 0.01% B as well can be used.
