<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure firm contact between an image carrier and a contact transfer member and satisfactorily maintain the transfer performance of the contact transfer member. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: the image carrier 1; the contact transfer member 2 that sandwiches a transfer material 3 in a transfer area n between the image carrier 1 and itself and electrostatically transfers an image on the image carrier 1; and a transfer material guide device 4 that guides the transfer material 3 to the transfer area n between the image carrier 1 and the contact transfer member 2. In the image forming apparatus, the transfer material guide device 4 has a pair of guide chutes 4a and 4b designed such that the transfer material 3 is guided so as to be thrust into the place that is outside of and upstream of the transfer area n of the image carrier 1. When an angle (the thrust angle of the transfer material) between the contact flat face M of the image carrier 1 in the place where the transfer material 3 is thrust to the image carrier 1 and the thrust position h of the transfer material 3 is defined as θ, and a gap between the guide chute 4a near to the transfer area n and the image carrier 1 is k, the conditions of 45°≤θ≤60° and 1.0 mm≤k≤2.5 mm are satisfied. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
