PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a character input method by which a document etc., including characters and numbers can easily and speedily be inputted, without increasing the frequency of operation by using irreducible keys, and a mobile terminal device. SOLUTION: A plurality of characters (characters and numbers) are allocated to each key of a keyboard 19 that a normal mobile terminal device is equipped with, and forward/backward and up/down moving directions of a device body are calculated by using an accelerometer 23. A user depresses a key, including a desired character or number and moves the device body forward and backward, to the right and to the left, or vertically to select the desired character according to a moving direction calculated by the accelerometer 23 and a CPU 12 and thus display it at a display part 22, and releases the key to input the character.
