PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating method suitable for a topcoating on such as automotive outer panels and capable of forming a multi-layer coating film having a dense granular feeling and a metallic feeling, moreover, having a metallic coating color with a high color saturation and high depth feeling. SOLUTION: This is a method for coating a metallic base coating material (A) which contains a brilliant pigment and subsequently, for coating a color clean coating material (B). And this is the coating method characterized in forming a coating film which measured value (HG value) for the granular feeling is≤60 by a measuring instrument of micro brilliant appearance while the metallic base coating material (A) is≥230 in an IV value.
