PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a negative ion generator having an electrode structure capable of sufficiently securing an insulation distance between a positive electrode and a negative electrode by a simple structure without expanding a space, and thereby preventing abnormal discharge even if an insulation terminal part gets wet; and to provide a refrigerator composed by mounting it. SOLUTION: This negative ion generator 5 is so structured that an electrode unit 7 formed with the negative electrode 11 having a needle electrode 11a at a tip, and the positive electrode 12 disposed oppositely to the needle electrode with a predetermined distance is connected a high-voltage transformer 6 for applying a negative high voltage between the positive and negative electrodes of the electrode unit through a high-voltage cable 14. The negative ion generator is characterized by that a distance between a tab terminal 11b of the negative electrode reaching the needle electrode and a terminal 12a of the positive electrode is sufficiently greatly separated as compared with the distance between the tips of the positive and negative electrodes.
