PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a branching path detecting device/method, with which a branching path can more speedily be detected. SOLUTION: The branching path detecting device loaded on a self-vehicle is provided with a laser radar 1, a branching path information acquiring part 31 for acquiring branching path information on the branching path, existing in front of the self-vehicle and a branching path calculating part 32 detecting the branching path existing in front of the vehicle by a prescribed operation method, based on a detection point which the laser radar 1 detects, when the branching path information acquiring part 31 acquires the branching path information.
