Device for inputting alphanumeric characters, has a display unit on which main or special characters can be displayed, whereby the characters are input to an infotainment system for command or option selection. The special characters are divided into at least two groups, with each group of special characters assigned to at least one main character. An independent claim is made for a method for inputting alphanumeric characters.
