PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid supply mechanism and a liquid storage vessel, which have high liquid storage efficiency. SOLUTION: A subtank part 41 comprises a subtank part 30, an ink retraction chamber 31, and an outside air shielding chamber 33 which houses an ink absorber 35. An ink supply passage 36 makes the chamber 33 communicate with the subtank 30, and an internal communication passage 32 makes the chamber 33 communicate with the chamber 31. Openings 36a and 32a of the passages 36 and 32 are formed in the state of getting close to each other and coming into contact with the ink absorber 15; the opening 36b is formed on the bottom of the subtank 30; and the opening 32b is formed in an upper part on the side of the chamber 31. The opening 36a on the side of the chamber 33 and a recording head cartridge 1 make the bottom of the subtank 30 and a part above the chamber 31 communicate with each other via the ink absorber 35 in the chamber 33, and make them communicate with the air via the ink absorber 35.
