<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for refining gas having high catalyst activity and increasing ammonia decomposition rate compared to the conventional methods when decomposing and removing ammonia in the gas in the presence of catalyst. <P>SOLUTION: The method for refining gas comprises decomposing and removing ammonia in the gas in the presence of a catalyst, wherein material containing iron hydroxide (for example, α-oxy iron hydroxide, γ-oxy iron hydroxide or amorphous iron hydroxide) is used as the catalyst.
