<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain the scattering of toner due to discharge caused in a gap in a non-contact developing type image forming apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: A toner image for a test TI is formed, and the amplitude of developing bias which does not cause the discharge in the gap is decided based on the detected result of the density of the toner image TI. In forming an image part IM for detecting density, the discharge is propagated to a non-image part NI only in an area between the image part IM and image parts for guard GI because the image parts for guard GI are provided on both sides of the image part IM. Therefore, the discharge is prevented from being propagated in a wide range, and the scattering amount of toner is restrained to be small. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
