<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a computer system or the like capable of performing rapid and precise fingerprint collation with a minimized working memory. <P>SOLUTION: By using, in addition to conventional flexible software processing, hardware processing independently operating while having flexibility, and applying them to processing suitable for software in the first half of a fingerprint collation algorithm and processing for hardware in the last half thereof, an LSI capable of performing input fingerprint collation to a number of registered fingerprint data at high speed is provided. The fingerprint collation LSI is loaded with not only a processor, but also a memory of ROM or RAM for storing a program or data. A reconfiguration type variable logic device is adapted as the hardware, whereby hardware differed for every application can be variably configured by data stored in the ROM memory. Accordingly, a general purpose fingerprint LSI with various input/output interfaces can be provided.
