PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the safety property regarding a buckle which is attached to the waist belt of a safety belt or the like. SOLUTION: A pair of engaging claws 12 are rockably provided on the front side opening of a plate insertion space 10 which is provided on a buckle main body. The engaging claws 12 are urged by a spring 14 in a direction wherein the end sections of operation piece sections 13 which are formed on the outside of respective engaging claws 12 come into contact with stoppers 8a which are provided on both sides of the plate insertion space 10. A neck section and a head section 28b having a wider width are provided on an insertion plate which is provided on a tongue plate 20, and the insertion plate is inserted through a pair of the engaging claws 12. Thus, the buckle main body and the tongue plate 20 are kept coupled by the engagements of the engaging claws 12 with the rear end of the head section 28b. The engaging claws 12 are prevented from rocking in the engagement-releasing direction by a contact of the end sections of the operation piece sections 13 with an obstacle by maintaining a state that the end sections of the operation piece sections 13 come into contact with the stoppers 8a under the combined state.
